ISO 14001:2015 – Environmental Management System
ISO 14001, the international standard for Environmental Management Systems (EMS) helps organizations identify and systematically reduce any harmful effects on the environment.
The updated standard better helps small and medium sized businesses control environmental effects in the supply chain, engage stakeholders, and communicate EMS efforts externally.
The new version includes a requirement to understand the organization’s context in order to better manage risk, with more emphasis made on leaders within organizations to promote environmental management. In addition there is a shift towards improving environmental performance rather than improving the management system.
ISO 14001:2015 was published in September 2015, all organizations currently certified to ISO 14001:2004 will have three (3) years from the release date to update to the new standard. AMC recommends that all clients upgrade to the new standard by March 2018 in order to complete the audit process by the deadline.
